Village Conservatories celebrates award-winning Beaminster orangery

Village Conservatories is celebrating after a bespoke orangery in Beaminster was named Origin Global’s Installation of the Month.

The award recognises the craftsmanship, attention to detail and innovative design behind the project, created for a local Dorset homeowner

While conservatories are traditionally made predominantly from glazed areas, an orangery combines the benefits of a garden room with a more substantial, architectural design, typically featuring solid columns, a perimeter roof and a glazed lantern or rooflight. The result is a room that feels like a natural extension of the home while still bringing in plenty of light and views of the garden.

Village Conservatories specialises in creating bespoke orangeries, designing each project around the individual property, its architecture and the way the space will be used.

For the Beaminster project, there was one particularly important feature to consider – a mature wisteria that had grown along the rear of the property for decades, whilst internally a mature grapevine needed to be incorporated. Rather than removing the wisteria, the Village Conservatories team made the plant part of the design.

The structure, roofline and glazing were carefully adapted to allow the wisteria to grow around and through the new framework, creating a unique connection between the orangery and garden.

The finished space combines traditional character with modern Origin windows and doors, high-performance glazing and insulation, creating a comfortable room that can be enjoyed throughout the year.

The project demonstrates the benefits of a truly bespoke approach, where an orangery is designed to complement the existing home and landscape rather than simply adding a standard extension.

“We’re absolutely delighted to have received Installation of the Month from Origin Global,” said Village Conservatories. “This project was particularly special because we were able to design around an established and much-loved wisteria and internal grapevine. Instead of seeing it as an obstacle, we made it a central part of the orangery’s design.”
